National Heart Health Month: Why Fruit Slabs Are A Heart Healthy Treat During Black History Month

We are celebrating National Heart Health Month within Black History Month with education around how you can keep your heart healthy. Heart disease is the number one killer for all Americans with strokes being the leading cause of death. If you are African American, the risks for getting these diseases are even higher.

High blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes are all common conditions that increase the risks of developing stroke and heart disease.

According to heart.org, “The prevalence of high blood pressure in African-Americans is the highest in the world.” High Blood Pressure is also known as hypertension, and can increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Not only this, but it can cause permanent damage to the heart before any symptoms show. This is why it is often labeled as the "silent killer."

You are not able to do anything about your family history but you are able to do something about your blood pressure.

Purple hued foods have been found to signify improved health and a study found that Americans who eat purple and/or blue fruits had lower blood pressure and reduced markers of inflammation compared to those who didn’t. In the past three decades research has shown that Concord grapes help maintain clean and flexible arteries thanks to the polyphenols found in the fruit.

Fruit Slabs flavor made with Concord grapes are great to add to your daily snacking routine. *Note: Grape Slabs are best enjoyed at night and tend to have a more sedative effect. We do not market our edibles as “sativa/indica/hybrid because we use kosher certified cannabis distillate.

A good start to maintain heart health could be walking at least 30 minutes a day and eliminating sugary drinks and desserts. This would also include eliminating sugary coated cannabis edibles and artificial drinks and asking your local dispensary to carry more heart healthy options. Please consult your physician before starting any new routines or medications.
